Martin vs Sam Houston
Game Summary
Martin JV played their first district game of the 2008 season against
the Sam Houston Texans at Martin. The first Texan walked followed by a pop up to
pitcher, Ryan Walker. The third batter hit a single but was doubled off when the
next batter hit into a 4-6-3 double play. The bottom of the first saw the
Warriors sit down in order with three fly balls, one caught in right field and
two in the left field. Sam’s first batter in the second inning hit a single and
was bunted over but was left standing on second base when Walker struck out the
next two batters to move into the bottom of the inning. Tyler Wilhelm and Matt
Kazmierski both walked during the inning, Kyle Chatham and Jordan Hasler both
had a single and an RBI and Felix Martinez hit a 2 run double to make it 4 – 0
after 2. The third inning started out with a walk to the first Texan up who was
then thrown out at second during another 4-6-3 double play. The next two batters
reach, one on a single and the other after being binged by the pitch only to be
stranded when Walker struck out the #4 hitter to end the top of the third.
Wilhelm was dealt his second walk of the game but was stranded during the
Warrior half of the inning. In the fourth the first batter was struck out by
Walker, the next Texan reached due to a Warrior error and then a few more
batters were put aboard by drawing walks. Trey Thompson came in to close out the
inning and struck out the last two batters. Kazmierski started the bottom of the
fourth with a walk and scored three batters later when Dillon Dawson hit a RBI
single. Thompson also had a single in the inning but failed to score. The top of
the fifth saw a strike out, ground out, 2 walks and strike out in that order to
leave two Sam runners on base and no score. Wilhelm’s patience at the plate once
again paid off with his third walk of the game. Chatham was put on base with a
Sam Houston error and Kazmierski hit a single to load them up for Alec Shurack
who came through with a sac fly to center field to rack up an RBI. Hasler then
hit a single that scored two. Dawson hit a double and Thompson walked in the
inning as well. The Warriors left two on base at the end of the fifth inning.
Thompson put two Texans on during the top of the sixth with no harm since he
also struck out two and got one to hit a ground ball for an out to end the game
9 – 3 Warriors.
