Martin vs Duncanville
Game Summary
Chris Micheal started against the Duncanville Panthers in this district
match-up at home. During the first inning the Panthers were able to score two
runs with the Warriors not keeping pace despite Travis Yost drawing a walk.
Duncanville did not score during the second inning and would have gone down in
order if not for a Warrior error. Trevor Slocum started the bottom half of the
second with a single and was called out at second when Trey Kensing hit a
fielder’s choice. Due to a questionable interference call Kensing was also
called out. The Warriors were not able to put anyone else on board during the
inning. The Panthers did go down in order in the third inning followed by the
Warriors’ Alec Shurac hitting a single and Eric Jeske reaching on a walk.
Unfortunately both Shurac and Jeske were stranded keeping the score 2 – 0
Duncanville after three innings of play. The Panthers got three hits and two
runs in the fourth, one of which was a line drive down the third baseline which
looked an awful lot like a foul ball except to the person that counts, the
umpire. The Warriors once again went down in order. During the fifth inning the
Panthers hit another ball that looked like it could have been foul, but once
again the umpire thought differently and this one was over the fence scoring two
more runs for the Panthers. During the Warriors half of the inning Shurac was
dealt a walk and catcher, Kyle Chathum hit a double but the home team was still
unable to score. The Warriors held Duncanville scoreless in the sixth. Dillon
Dawson and Dylan Rucker started out the bottom of the sixth with back to back
walks followed by a 2 run double by Cameron Shultz. The reliever, Ryan Walker
also drew a walk but was left on base to bring the score to 6 – 2 after 6
innings of play. In the seventh inning the only Panther base runner was due to a
walk but they were not able to add to their lead. The Warrior hitters gave it a
good shot with Chatham hitting a single to get it started followed by a double
from Jeske, which scored Chatham. Dawson hit a single and moved to third on the
overthrow to home. Trey Thompson hit what he hoped was a sac fly to center field
but the throw was right on and drew Dawson into a rundown between home and
third. Dawson didn’t win the battle. Shultz got his second hit of the day with a
single and stole second base but was left stranded at the end of the inning with
a final score of 6 – 4 Panthers.
