Martin vs Cedar Hill

Game Summary
During the first inning of the second match up of the season between the Martin Warriors and the Cedar Hill Longhorns the Warriors didn’t get anything started and pitcher, Tyler Wilhelm didn’t let the Longhorns start anything either when he struck two out and had the third batter fly out to Trey Thompson in right field. The second inning saw Kyle Chatham hit a single, Tony Rizzotti got on with a little help from the Longhorn center fielder and Felix Martinez hit a single scoring Trey Kensing who was running for Chatham. Dillon Dawson got hit by a pitch. Jordan Hasler came up with bases loaded and one out. Hasler laid down a beautiful squeeze bunt, he was safe and he scored Rizzotti and Martinez almost made it home as well. The excitement went into the bottom of the inning with Wilhelm striking out the first batter he faced during the inning and walking the second. The third batter struck out and while Wilhelm was pitching to the fourth Longhorn batter he made a great move to second base where he picked off the runner with help from the short stop, Trevor Slocum. Dylan Rucker got on during the third when he was hit by a pitch followed by Chatham once again getting on board, this time with a throwing error by the Longhorn third baseman, Rucker scored. Rizzotti hit an RBI single to score Kensing, once again running for Chatham. The lead off batter for Cedar Hill was issued a walk and the next benefitted from the only Warrior error of the game. The next batter grounded out to Rizzotti at first to Wilhelm and the next two struck out swinging but not before one of the Longhorns crossed the plate to make the score 4 – 1 Warriors after three innings of play. The Warriors once again scored 2 runs in the fourth with a double from Hasler, a walk to Ryan Walker and a single from Cameron Shultz. In the fourth the Longhorns first batter hit a ground ball that was thrown to Rizzotti at first a little wide, but Rizzotti made the tag to make the first out. The next batter walked, then a ground out to Hasler at second followed by the second Longhorn hit of the evening. The next batter came up with two runners on but the reliever, Matt Kazmierski struck him out swinging to leave the runners stranded. After two outs in the top of the fifth Rizzotti hit a double and scored when Martinez followed with a double of his own. Martinez scored when Eric Jeske reached on an error only to be thrown out trying for second. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Cedar Hill’s first batter of the fifth hit a single but the next three grounded out, one to Walker at short and two back to Kazmierski on the mound. In the sixth Walker hit a single, Kensing got on with an error, Travis Yost hit a single and Rucker hit a long sac fly to right field and once again the Warriors scored two during the inning. Kazmierski struck out the first Longhorn he faced in the sixth, the next grounded out to Kensing at third base and the final out of the inning was a strike out looking. A couple of Warriors got on base in the seventh due to Longhorn errors but they were not able to add to the Warrior lead. Trey Thompson took the mound to wrap up the game and although he gave up two hits and walked two Longhorns he held them to two runs. Thompson struck out two batters and one hit to third baseman Kensing who handled the ball and threw the runner out at first. The final score was 10 – 3 Warriors. On to the Lamar Vikings for the district championship.
