Martin vs Bowie
Game Summary
The Bowie Volunteers came to Martin to face the Mighty
Warriors. Tony Rizzotti took the mound and set the Vols down in the top of the
first 1 – 2 – 3. The Warrior half of the inning started out with a bang when
Eric Jeske went yard over the 360 mark. Ryan Walker followed with a single and
Cameron Shultz took a walk. With two outs and two on Tyler Wilhelm hit a deep
ball to right field to score both Walker and Shultz before the inning ended.
Rizzotti shut the Vols down in order again in the second inning with a fly ball
to Jeske in center and two strike outs. Alec Shurack got hit by a pitch to start
out the second for the Warriors. Jeske got on due to a throwing error and later
there was a series of singles from Travis Yost, Shultz and Kyle Chatham. Wilhelm
came up with two outs and two on once again but this time he racked up three
RBIs with his long ball over the left field fence. The Vols brought in a new
pitcher to wrap up the inning and at the end of two full innings of play the
score was 9 – 0 Warriors. The Vols once again went down in order, this time with
three strike outs. The Warriors could not add to their lead in the third despite
a single from Walker. In the fourth inning Bowie’s lead off batter got their
first hit of the game but he was thrown out trying to steal when Trey Kensing
behind the plate hooked up with Shurack at second. The Warriors once again could
not score during the fourth although Chatham had his second single of the game
and Wilhelm had his second double and third hit of the game. In the fifth the
first Volunteer popped up to Shurack followed by a hit batsman. Rizzotti caught
the runner unaware though and was able to pick him off at first with the help of
first baseman, Wilhelm. The bottom of the fifth saw a double from Matt
Kazmierski and a walk dealt to Walker but once again the Warriors could not
score to wrap up the game. Rizzotti was still going strong in the top of the
sixth when he struck out the first batter and got the second batter to pop up to
Wilhelm at first and the next batter to pop up to Walker at short. The bottom of
the sixth started with Chatham and Chris Micheal both getting on with help from
Bowie errors. Trevor Slocum hit a 2 RBI double to left center to drive in both
Chatham and Micheal to end the game with a run rule score of 11 – 0 with the
Warriors having used only 1 out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rizzotti
faced 19 batters, struck out 8, issued no base on balls and hit 1 batter.
