Martin vs Arlington
Game Summary
Dylan Rucker pitched a complete game for the Warriors against the
cross-town rivals, the Arlington Colts. Bases were loaded quickly with a single
by Eric Jeske, a double by Ryan Walker and a walk issued to Trey Thompson.
Trevor Slocum hit a sac fly to right field to score Jeske which was the only
Warrior run for the next six innings. The Colts did not score although they had
a single in the bottom of the first. Alec Shurack had a single in the top of the
second and Jeske drew a walk but both were left on board. The Colts first batter
of the second inning reached on an error and later scored when another Colt hit
a double. Arlington also left two stranded during the second.
Offensively through the seventh the Warriors had singles from Slocum, Kyle
Chatham, Rucker and Jeske but failed to get a running across home plate.
Luckily the defense was playing just as hard. The third inning saw the first two
Colts strike out followed by a walk and a ground out. In the fourth Arlington
went down in order with two ground outs and a strike out. The first Cold batter
of the fifth inning hit a single followed by a bunt for a hit. The third batter
hit a hard line drive at Rucker on the mound who caught the ball and doubled off
the runner at second base to get the Warriors out of the inning. The sixth
inning was once more 1-2-3 with a fly ball to Thompson in right field, a pop up
to second baseman, Jordan Hasler and the third batter hit to Walker at shortstop
who connected with Tyler Wilhelm at first to end the inning. With no score in
the top of the seventh for the Warriors it was tied 1 – 1 going into the bottom
of the seventh. The first Arlington batter got on due to an error, the next two
batters struck out and the fourth batter in the bottom of the inning hit a
single. With two Colts on base and two outs Rucker struck out the next guy
swinging.
This took the game into extra innings and the Warriors did not waste any time
making Arlington pay. Rucker took his second walk of the night followed by a
double to the fence by Slocum. Hassler drew a walk which loaded up the bases.
The hurler for the Colts baulked scoring the go ahead run for the Warriors but
they weren’t finished yet. Trey Kensing stepped in and hit a 2 RBI single
followed by a walk by Travis Yost. Jeske also hit a 2 RBI single. Walker drew a
walk which took us back to where we started at the top of the inning with Rucker
stepping into the batters box. This time Rucker hit a 2 run double which brought
the total damage to 8 – 1 Warriors after 7 ˝ innings. The Colt’s try to mount a
come back but fell well short. During the inning they had 3 walks and 1 single
but Rucker also struck out 3 limiting them to just one run to make the final 8 –
2 Warriors.
