Game Summary
Keith Carney started on the mound for the Mighty Warrior
Freshman against
the Mansfield Tigers in the Championship Game of the Lamar Freshman Tournament.
In the 1st, the Warriors were able to score 1 run on singles from Carney, Aaron
Warren and Nathan Gourley. The Tigers answered back in the 1st with 2 runs
of their own by taking advantage of 2 Warrior errors. In the 2nd the Warriors
returned by batting all 9 and scoring 4 runs. Daniel Chamberlain was the only
hitter in the inning but errors and walks enabled the Warriors to jump ahead.
In the same inning the Tigers were unable to turn their 1 hit into a run. The
3rd
inning for the Warriors was an outstanding display of hitting. Russell Bellomy
(2 RBI's),
Carney (1 RBI), and Nathan Gourley (2 RBI's) hit doubles with Brady Harvey and
Chamberlain knocking singles. In the same inning the Tigers scored 1 run on 3
hits. In the 4th the Warriors scored 1 run on 1 hit by Harvey when the 1st
baseman for the Tigers committed an error. Mansfield was scoreless in the bottom
of the 4th with Gourley throwing a runner out at 2nd. Again in the 5th inning
the Warriors hit the lineup plus 1 scoring 5 runs on only 1 hit and 3 walks. The
bottom of the inning was a perfect display of defense for the Warriors with a 3
up/3 down inning to win the Championship.
