Martin vs MacArthur
Game Summary
The second game of the first round series was held at the
Diamonds at Martin. Kevin Winter was on the mound for the Warriors. He started
off strong striking out the first two and the third grounded out to Brian Ragira
at third. The Warriors lead off, Jay Hiller, grounded out to second in the
bottom of the inning. Michael Chovanec reached base on balls. Jantzen Witte
struck out and Jordan Imhoff hit a fielder’s choice to short with Chovanec being
thrown out at second.
The 2nd inning, the first batter flew out to Imhoff in right field. The next
batter grounded out to Witte at short and the final Cardinals batter hit a
grounder to shallow right. Chase Jensen fielded the ball and made a great throw
to Chovanec at first for the out. Chase Brown led off for Martin and flew out to
centerfield. Daniel Garcia was up next and grounded out to third. Ragira came to
the plate and hit a single to left and moved to second when the left fielder
mishandled the ball. Next up was Jake Mizell who hit a single to left center
scoring Ragira for the first Warrior run. Jensen then hit a fielder’s choice to
second baseman with Mizell being thrown out at second.
The first Cardinals batter of the 3rd inning reached base on balls. Winter hit
the next batter putting two on base. Winter attempted to pick off the runner at
first and got off a bad throw allowing the runners to move to second and third
bases. The next batter struck out and Garcia tagged out the runner attempting to
steal home for two outs. Winter struck out the next batter for the final out.
Hiller led off for Martin and battled with three foul offs and then a long fly
to centerfield for an out. Chovanec bunted for a hit and Witte got on with a
walk. Imhoff was up next and hit to deep centerfield for a fly out.
In the top of the 4th, Winter struck out two and the other batter flew out to
Brown in centerfield. Brown was the first up to bat and hit a single to right.
He moved to second on a pass ball and managed to steal third. Garcia reached
base on balls and Shane Griffin went in as pinch runner. The Cardinals made a
pitching change bringing in the same pitcher that closed Friday night’s game. He
hit Ragira with a pitch loading the bases. Mizell was up next and hit to left
field scoring Brown. Jensen then hit also to left and scored Garcia and Ragira
bringing the score to 4-0 Martin. Hiller again battled at the plate with two
foul offs but ended up striking out. Chovanec hit a single to right scoring
Mizell. Witte was up next and reached on an error by the second baseman. Jensen
scored on the play. Imhoff came to the plate next and hit a double to left field
scoring Chovanec. Brown came back up to hit and got a single up the middle
scoring Witte. Garcia struck out bringing up Ragira who reached base on an error
by the third baseman and Imhoff scored with the score now 9-0 Martin. Mizell
made the final out grounding out to second.
Winter struck out the first batter in the 5th and the next batter hit a single
behind short. The next batter struck out. The runner attempted to steal second
and was run down with Garcia throwing to Jensen who threw to Chovanec and
Chovanec made the tag for the final out. The Warriors only needed one run to end
the game in a run rule. Paul Gonzalez came in to pinch hit for Jensen and hit a
triple to center field. Tyler Osier went in to pinch hit for Hiller and on the
first pitch, hit a single to left to score the winning run!
The Warriors sweep the first round series!
