Martin vs Arlington

Game Summary
The Warriors met up with the Colts at Arlington for the last district meeting of the cross-town rivals. Jake Mizell led off with a battle to full count and then some, but flew out to the left fielder. Mike Chovanec was up next and hit a solo home run – his first of the season. Jantzen Witte battled as well, but came up short with a strikeout. Jordan Imhoff went full count and fouled off two but ended up on base with a walk. Chase Brown hit a deep fly ball to center field for the final out. Shane Griffin had the ball for Martin. Arlington’s first batter hit a double to right field followed by the next reaching base on a walk. The third batter hit into a double play to Witte, Jentzen and Chovanec for two outs. The fourth batter hit a base hit down third base line scoring the lead off and tying the score 1-1. The final Colt batter of the inning hit a fielder’s choice to Witte who got the force at second.

The 2nd inning Daniel Garcia led off with a fly out deep to center field. Brian Ragira was up next and hit a double to left center. (He didn’t let that ball in the face during warm-ups effect him one bit!) Jay Hiller came up next and hit a single over short. Hiller was thrown out attempting to steal second. Chase Jensen was the last at bat with a shot back to the first baseman for the final out leaving Ragira on base and the score remaining 1-1. Griffin shut the Colts down with the help of great defense behind him in the 2nd. The first two batters grounded out and the last popped out to Garcia.

Mizell and Chovanec both struck out in the 3rd inning. Witte got a double to left center and Imhoff was intentionally walked after three balls. Brown hit a fielder’s choice to third where Witte was tagged out. The Colts led off the 3rd with a base hit and moved around on a couple of wild pitches. The next batter walked and was thrown out by Garcia to Jentzen at second and the lead off stole home bringing the score 1-2 Colts. Then we had a fly out to Chovanec for the second out. The next batter hit a nice high one between first and second with Jensen giving it his best vertical leap but was just shy of getting it. The final batter flew out to Mizell in left field.

Garcia led off in the 4th with a base hit up the middle. Tanner Hapeman went in to run for him. Ragira moved him around with a single over second base. Hapeman scored on an error by the catcher who over threw third trying to throw him out. Ragira stole second but was left hanging as the next three batters struck out. The score was once again tied up, now 2-2. The lead off batter for Arlington hit a base hit to left center. The next batter hit a fielder’s choice to shortstop and Witte threw the lead runner out at second. The next batter hit a single deep to right center, but was thrown out by Brown to Witte to Jensen at second. The last batter struck out leaving one on base and the score still tied 2-2.

The 5th inning Chovanec led off with a single to right field. Witte was up next with a fly out to center field. Chovanec was then thrown out in a pickle between first and second. Imhoff came to the plate and hit a base hit to right field. He quickly stole second base and a pitch hit Brown during his at bat. Garcia hit a single to right scoring Imhoff to break the tie. Ragira then hit a single just over shortstop and scored Brown bring the score to 4-2 Warriors. Hiller came to the plate next and was hit by a pitch loading the bases. Jensen hit a fly deep to left field for the final out leaving three on base. Griffin and the Warrior defense held the Colts to no score in the bottom of the inning with three up and three down.

In the 6th, Mizell struck out and Chovanec grounded out for the first two outs. Witte walked and Imhoff struck out leaving Witte hanging. Arlington’s first two batters each grounded out to Witte at short. The third batter hit a base hit to left. The next batter walked and the next hit a single to left scoring the first runner to reach base. Stewart Person then went in to relieve Griffin and struck out the final batter of the inning with the score now 4-3.

The final inning the Warriors led off with a Chase Brown single to right field. Brown stole second to be in scoring position. Garcia struck out for the first out. Ragira was up next and hit a two run homer putting the Warriors up 6-3. Hiller struck out and Jensen flew out to end the half inning. Person led off the bottom half with a strike out, but walked the next one. The third batter hit a single up the middle. Coach decided to bring in Imhoff to close it. Imhoff did his job by striking out the first one and then threw three strikes in a row for the final strike out. Ending in an exciting win for the Warriors!
