Martin vs Lamar
Game Summary
The Warriors hosted Lamar at Warrior Field for the first face off with
the Vikings. Mike Hill started on the mound with Lamar scoring two on four hits
in the 1st inning. In the 2nd inning the lead off batter hit a shot back to Hill
hitting him in the leg and then bouncing to Witte who threw to Chovanec at first
for the out. Hill didn’t allow another hit after the 1st inning and struck out
four. He was relieved in the 5th by Stewart Person after putting three on base.
Person pitched to two more batters in the 5th, walking one and striking out the
next. He pitched the 6th inning with three up and three down. Jordan Imhoff
pitched the final inning also retiring the Lamar hitters 1-2-3 with one
strikeout.
Jake Mizell led off the 1st inning with a solo home run after fouling off 4 or 5
with one off his foot. (Mizell had to have that foot x-rayed the next day, but
was blessed with a negative result – just badly bruised.) Jantzen Witte, Imhoff
and Daniel Garcia each got base hits and the Warriors answered the two runs
Lamar got with three of their own. In the 2nd inning, Jay Hiller led off with a
single to center field but was picked off leading off at first. In the 3rd
inning Mike Chovanec got a base hit to right center and Witte followed with a
walk. Chovanec stole third and then reached home on a wild pitch. Witte reached
home on a pass ball. Chase Brown also reached base on balls and stole second and
third and then stole home too! Garcia, Brian Ragira and Hiller all walked as
well. Shane Griffin went in to run for Garcia and was thrown out by the catcher
at second. Tyler Osier hit a fielder’s choice to third and Ragira was out on the
force. Mizell led off the 4th inning with a long fly ball to center field that
was easily caught. Chovanec followed with a walk and moved to second on a wild
pitch. Witte came to the plate next and hit his 6th home run of the season
scoring two. Imhoff hit a long fly ball to center for the second out. Brown hit
a double and was thrown out attempting to steal third. Garcia led off the 5th
inning with a single and moved to second on a balk. Ragira was up next with a
two run homer. Hiller then hit a single to left field and Hunter Rienhardt
entered as a pinch runner for Hiller. Tanner Hapeman went in to pinch hit and
was hit by a pitch. Mizell, Chovanec and Witte each flew out to end the inning.
