Martin vs Franklin
Game Summary
In the final game of the Lubbock Tournament we faced the El Paso
Franklin High Cougars. In the 1st inning Mike Chovanec reached base after being
hit by a pitch followed by Jantzen Witte getting on with a walk. Jordan Imhoff
then hit a base hit up the middle scoring both Chovanec and Witte. Imhoff was
left on base. Only Chase Jensen got on base in the 2nd inning after a base hit
to left field, but was also left on base. Chovanec led off the 3rd with a walk
and Witte hit a single to left field but both runners were stranded on base. In
the 4th Jensen was again the only batter to reach base getting on by an error.
The 5th inning Chovanec led off with a double to right center. Witte followed
with a double to left field scoring Chovanec. Daniel Garcia scored Witte with a
base hit up the middle. Tanner Hapeman went in to pinch run and stole second
base, but was left on base at the top of the inning ended. Nearly every runner
scored in the 6th inning led by the designated hitter, Jay Hiller’s base hit up
the middle. Hiller was the first out after being picked off by the pitcher.
Jensen was up next and reached base on balls. Jake Mizell hit a single up the
middle followed by an almost identical hit by Chovanec that scored Jensen. Witte
hit a base hit to left field followed by Imhoff’s single to left field, which
scored Mizell and Chovanec. Chase Brown was up next and hit a double up the
middle scoring Witte and Imhoff. Garcia then hit to third base for a fielder’s
choice that did not result in an out as the fielder held the ball to avoid the
risk of a run scoring. Hapeman went in to run for Garcia. Ragira then hit a
single to right field scoring Brown. Shane Griffin went in to run for Ragira.
Hapeman and Griffin both scored on wild pitches. We began batting around again
and Jensen and Mizell both walked, but were left on base as the Courgars finally
got the 2nd and 3rd outs.
Brian Ragira pitched for the Warriors striking out three, walking two and
allowing six hits. In the 1st inning, there was a great relay play when Imhoff
fielded a triple to right field throwing it to Jensen at second who then threw
to Garcia at home to make the tag on the lead runner. Jensen fielded a hard hit
up the middle in the 3rd and made a terrific throw to Chovanec at first for an
out. It was definitely a Sports Center worthy play!
The Warriors ended the tournament winning their pool with 3 wins and 1 tie. The
tournament structure had to be altered with the first day being snowed out.
There were still games being played as we headed home and have not received word
to date what the final outcome was on placement overall. Great job Warriors!
