Martin vs Poteet
Game Summary
We traveled to Mesquite to play the Poteet Pirates on their uniquely designed
field which has an infield made of turf. The Warrior bats got off to a bit of a
slow start with only Jantzen Witte and Jordan Imhoff reaching base on balls in
the 1st inning and they were both left stranded on base. In the 2nd inning Jay
Hiller got on with a base hit after two outs. Hiller managed to steal second
base and then Chase Jensen hit a single and scored Hiller. Jensen was left on
base as Jacob Mizell flew out for the third out of the inning. Michael Chovanec
led off with a base knock in the 3rd and reached second on a pass ball. Witte
was up next and flew out. Imhoff then hit a shot to the third baseman who caught
it and threw to second base catching Chovanec with too big of a lead to get back
in time ending the inning 1-2-3. In the 4th inning Chase Brown reached first
base by a hit by pitch. Brian Ragira brought Brown and himself in with a home
run over right center to put the Warriors up 3-0. Jensen got another base hit
followed by both Mizell and Chovanec reaching base on balls, but with two outs
already on the board, Mizell was picked off at second to end the inning. Witte
led off the 5th inning with a walk. Brown hit a single up the middle scoring
Witte and reaching second base on an error as the center fielder bobbled the
ball trying to get it thrown in. Daniel Garcia got a base hit and Shane Griffin
went in to pinch run. Griffin was picked off attempting to steal second base.
The 6th inning we weren’t able to string anything together to score any runs
with only Mizell getting on base by a walk. In the final inning Witte led off
with a single up the middle followed by an Imhoff home run! Ragira got a base
hit to left field, but was thrown out after rounding first as the left fielder
threw it in to the short stop and the short stop fired it to the first baseman.
Mike Hill was on the mound for the Warriors and started off strong in the first
three innings. In the first inning the lead off batter got a base hit followed
by a grounder to short setting up a double play. Jensen wasn’t able to get the
ball off cleanly to first and the batter reached second after the fielder’s
choice. Imhoff made an amazing on the run diving catch in right field for the
second out followed by Chovanec making a diving catch of his own to end the
inning. Hill struck out the first two batters in the 2nd and then a grounder to
Witte at short with the easy throw to Chovanec at first made the final out. The
3rd inning was another three up and three down for Hill. The Warriors ran into
some trouble in the 4th with the Pirates getting several walks, a couple of hits
and a couple of errors allowing them to tie the game. The Poteet fans and dugout
got really nasty for a while making for a noisy and exciting inning. Stewart
Person entered the game with two outs and struck out the next batter shutting
the Pirates down and ending the inning. Person and the Warriors got the Pirates
out 1-2-3 in the 5th and 6th innings. Poteet got a couple of base runners on
errors in the 7th, but Person struck out two and Jensen made a good routine play
on a grounder to second throwing to Chovanec for the final out.
