Martin vs Arlington
Game Summary
Shane Griffin pitched a two hit shut out against the rival Arlington
Colts striking out ten, and hitting one. Defensive highlights included a great
double play in the 1st with Jantzen Witte fielding a grounder to short throwing
to Chovanec at first and then Chovanec throwing to Ragira at third to make the
final out. Jordan Imhoff made an awesome on-the-run catch in right field in the
5th. The traditionally “throwing of fruit” over the outfield wall during the
Arlington vs Martin game happened in the top of the 7th, suspending play while
Brown and Mizell threw the oranges back over the fence! That was about the only
action the outfielders got as Griffin, backed by great defense, shut the Colts
down.
Mike Chovanec started off the Warrior offensive domination with a double to
right center. Jantzen Witte then hit a home run over the left field wall scoring
our first two runs. Chase Brown got a base hit to right field followed by Daniel
Garcia reaching base on a hit by a pitch. Tanner Hapeman went in to pinch run
for Garcia and was thrown out at second on the fielder’s choice by Brian Ragira.
The Warriors were out 1-2-3 in each of the next four innings. But the 6th inning
the Warriors offense came alive with Witte leading off with a base hit. He was
then thrown out on an attempted stolen base. Imhoff was up next and reached base
on a walk. Chase Brown followed with a beautiful bunt for a hit. Garcia was then
intentionally walked with a 0-2 count to load the bases. Brian Ragira made the
Colts pay with a hit to left field batting in Imhoff and Brown. Ragira reached
second base when the left fielder bobbled the ball on the throw in. Jay Hiller
grounded out to second but scored Hapeman who was running again for Garcia.
Chase Jensen then hit a single to left field scoring Ragira. Jake Mizell and
Chovanec both drew walks bringing Witte back up to bat for the second time in
the inning. Witte hit a nice double to left center scoring all three base
runners and was then thrown out attempting to take third base. The win brings
the Warriors record to 2-0 in District play and overall record to 14-2-1.
