Martin Warriors @ South Grand Prairie Warriors
Game Summary
It was a do or die game for the Martin Warriors and they came out playing like
the winners we know they are! Harrison Law led off with a single to left
center to get the team going. Jantzen Witte hit a fielder’s choice with Law
getting thrown out at second. Will Keiser hit a single up the middle
setting up the two run double to left center by Jordan Imhoff. Brian
Nephew traded places with Imhoff, then Michael Chovanec hit another double to
right field scoring Nephew, but was left on base. SGP came out swinging as well
scoring three on a walk and three hits. MHS was stopped short in both the
2nd and 3rd with three up and three down in both. Our Warriors held SGP in
the 2nd, but in the 3rd they got one run in on a single home run tying the game
4-4. In the top of the 4th, the MHS fans got involved cheering their team on to
score four runs to push them ahead 8-4. Chovanec led off with a double
followed by Matt Schimpf reaching base on balls. Jake Mizell hit a
beautiful sacrifice bunt to put the runners in scoring position. Chase
Brown then hit a single to left center scoring Chovanec. Brown stole
second before Law reached base on a hit by pitch. Shane Griffin then came
in to run for Brown. Witte hit a long sacrifice fly to center field to score
Schimpf. Will Keiser hit a single to right field scoring Griffin and Law.
All three batters in the bottom of the 4th hit straight to Nephew at 3rd.
Nephew made accurate throws to Schimpf at first on all three plays. The
5th inning was scoreless for MHS with only Mizell reaching base on a single.
SGP put one run on the board in the bottom of the 5th with a walk, a double and
an error. In the 6th inning, Law led off reaching base on an error.
Witte hit a double to left field followed by a walk by Keiser. Imhoff hit a
single to left field scoring Law. Nephew hit a sacrifice fly to center
scoring Witte. Chovanec hit another double to center field scoring Keiser.
Schimpf hit a high in-field-fly which was mishandled by the infielders allowing
the runners to move to second and third. The runners were left on base
when Mizell hit a long fly ball to center field for the 3rd out. SGP was
not able to put a runner on base due to the great defense by MHS. Mike
Hill caught a shot back to the mound that knocked him down, and then followed up
with a strike-out and a ground out. Brown led off the final inning with a
walk and quickly stole second base. Shane Griffin then entered as a pinch
runner. Next on base was Witte who was hit by a pitch and stole second
base. Tyler Osier then went in to pinch run for Witte. Keiser hit a
sacrifice fly to right to move the runners around the bases, putting runners at
second and third. SGP intentionally walked Imhoff bringing up Nephew who
hit a grand slam home run! This pushed the score to 15-5. Chovanec
reached base on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Schimpf reached
base on balls. Daniel Garcia came in to bat for Mizell, but didn’t get to
finish his at bat as Chovanec was thrown out attempting to steal third.
SGP tried to rally in the bottom of the final inning with a hit and error and a
hit batter, but only managed to get one run in ending the game with a 15-6
Bi-District win for your Martin Warriors!
