Game Summary

The Martin Warriors traveled to South Grand Prairie for game 2 of the first round playoff series.  MHS got one run on the board in the 1st on a single home run by Jantzen Witte.  SGP came out strong in the bottom of the inning scoring four runs on two hits, a couple of walks and a couple of errors.   In the 2nd, MHS only managed one on base, a single by Jake Mizell, but the Martin defense held strong in the bottom of the inning with three up and three down.  The 3rd inning was much the same for MHS with only Will Keiser getting a single up the middle.  The MHS defense had another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 3rd. In the top of the 4th, Brian Nephew was the first batter up and reached base on balls.  Mizell hit a single followed by a walk by Chase Brown loading the bases.  Tanner Hapeman entered the game to pinch run for Brown. Harrison Law then walked which walked Nephew home.  Next up was Witte who hit a single, scoring Mizell and closing the run gap to a one run lead by SGP.  MHS was unable to get the other runners home leaving three on base.  Shane Griffin came out strong in the bottom of the 4th striking out the first two SGP batters.  One batter reached base on a single but was thrown out at 2nd on the next batter’s hit to Brian Nephew at 3rd. MHS was out of the 5th inning three up and three down.  In the bottom of the 5th, Martin quickly disposed of the first two SGP batters with a couple of good defensive plays, one of which first baseman Tyler Martin suffered a hamstring injury taking him out of the game.  Matt Schimpf entered the game to replace T. Martin.  The third batter got a hit and then reached 2nd on an error.  The runner easily scored on the double by the next batter.  The bases were loaded when the next two batters reached on a walk and a hit by pitch.  Jordan Imhoff then came to the mound in relief and struck out the next batter to get Martin out of the inning.  Martin got one man on base in the 6th with Michael Chovanec’s lead off hit up the middle, but he was left stranded on base.  In the bottom of the inning, SGP scored one on three good hits pushing the lead to 6-3.  MHS could not answer the runs in the final inning ending the game with a loss forcing a game 3 to decide the series.
