Martin Warriors vs South Grand Prairie Warriors
Game Summary
The first game of playoffs started off with the SGP Warriors getting a couple of
runners on base with a couple of good hits, but the MHS Warriors defense made
some great plays including a double play by Will Keiser and Tyler Martin. Jacob Mizell made the final out of the inning catching a fly ball to right center. The SGP Warriors defense was equally hot in the bottom of the inning with a double
play as well and no score for MHS. In the top of the 2nd SGP had four well
placed hits and ended up with two runs. Martin managed one run in the bottom of
the inning with Jordan Imhoff reaching base on a hit by pitch and then scoring
on an error by the short stop. In the 3rd inning the SGP Warriors scored one run
on a passed ball. Martin Warriors offense came alive in the bottom of the 3rd
starting with a lead off single by Chase Brown who quickly stole second. Shane
Griffin then came in to run for Brown. Harrison Law up next drew a walk and both
runners advanced on Witte’s fielder’s choice bunt. The pitcher fielded the ball
and made a bad throw to 3rd base allowing the bases to be loaded. Will Keiser
hit a single, which scored Griffin and once again the bases were loaded. Imhoff
was up next and hit a long fly ball to right center for a three run double. Brian Nephew then hit a two run homer over right field. Tyler Martin kept the
hitting streak going with a single to the short stop. Michael Chovanec hit into
a double play for Martin’s first two outs of the inning. Jake Mizell hit a
single up the middle, then Brown came up to bat for the second time in the
inning and flew out to right field. The top of the 4th SGP came out fired up and
scored four runs to tie the game. Martin was unable to answer in the bottom of
the inning with only one runner reaching base – Law on a single. In the 5th
inning Jordan Imhoff came to the mound in relief for Kevin Winter with one out. The first batter he faced grounded out to Will Keiser/Tyler Martin. The next
batter hit a fly ball to right field and Michael Chovanec fielded it cleanly and
made an excellent throw to Brown who tagged a runner out at the plate for the
final out of the inning allowing only one run to score on the hit. SGP went
ahead once again with the score now 8-7. Martin didn’t reach base in the bottom
of the 5th. Imhoff struck all three batters out in the top of the 6th. Martin
started off the 6th with two outs on the first two batters. Law hit a single to
reach base, then Witte reached base on a hit by pitch. Keiser then hit a double
to load the bases. SGP decided to intentionally walk Imhoff – guess they heard
he was leading the district in home runs! Brian Nephew hit a single to short
scoring Law and Witte to put the Warriors ahead 9-8. Tanner Hapeman entered the
game to run for Nephew and was thrown out at second on the fielder’s choice by
Tyler Martin. Imhoff and the Martin defense got it done in the top of the 7th
with a strike-out, a ground out and a final strike-out to win the game!
