Martin Warriors vs. El Paso Socorro Bulldogs

Game Summary
Kevin Winter started the final game of the series on the mound. The
first batter for El Paso walked. He was forced out at second on the fielder’s
choice by the next batter hitting to Will Keiser. The third batter got a
nice hit to left field. The fourth batter flew out to Jordan Imhoff in right
field followed by a strike out to end the Bulldogs chance of scoring first.
Harrison Law led off in the bottom of the 1st with a double to deep right
center. He advanced to third on Jordan Imhoff’s base hit to left field and
scored on a wild pitch. Brian Nephew got on base on balls, but both he and
Imhoff were left on base. The 2nd inning, Winter got a called third strike
on ten pitches to retire the first batter of the inning. The next batter
up hit a solo home run over left field tying the score 1-1. The Bulldogs
third batter got a base hit up the middle on a shot that first hit Winter in the
left shoulder area. The runner was left on base after a ground out to
third and fly out to center field. The Warriors only got Matt Schimpf on
base in the bottom of the 2nd with an error by the third baseman. The 3rd
inning the Martin defense made good routine plays to get the Bulldogs out three
up and three down. The bottom of the 3rd was an explosive inning for the
Warriors. Keiser and Imhoff both reached base on balls. Nephew hit a
single to left field scoring Keiser. Mike Chovanec drew a walk. Jake
Mizell got a base hit to left field scoring Imhoff. Schimpf hit up the middle
scoring both Nephew and Chovanec. Chase Brown hit to third base for a
fielder’s choice as the third baseman threw Schimpf out at second base.
Harrison Law hit a double to right center scoring Mizell and Brown. Law
also scored on a pass ball bringing the Warriors lead to 8-1. In the top
of the 4th, the first Bulldog batter got a base hit followed by the next
batter’s home run to bring the score to 8-3. Jordan Imhoff came to the
mound in relief for Kevin Winter. The next three batters were retired
easily on routine defensive plays. The Warriors kept the hits coming in
the bottom of the 4th inning with Keiser leading off hitting a single to left
field. Imhoff also hit a single to left field and Shane Griffin went in to
run for him. Keiser scored on an error by the left fielder. Chovanec hit a
double to right center, scoring Griffin. Mizell walked and Schimpf got a
base hit to left field loading the bases. Brown got a hit to right field
scoring Chovanec. Three runners were left on base as Law flew out to the
catcher, but the Warriors advanced their lead to 11-3. The Bulldogs scored
three in the 5th inning with four base hits and a walk narrowing the Warriors
lead to 11-6. In the bottom of the 5th inning with one out, Imhoff hit a
triple to deep right center with Griffin going in to run. Griffin scored
on Nephew’s sacrifice fly to center field. The Warriors were only able to
get the one run in to put them up 12-6. The Bulldogs came out rallying in
the 6th scoring five runs on a walk, a triple, three base hits and an error
diminishing the Warriors lead to 12-11. The Warriors got only one runner
on base in the bottom of the 6th with Chase Brown hitting a single up the
middle. Tanner Hapeman went in to run for him and stole second base, but
was left hanging with no other Warrior manufacturing a way to bring him home.
The Warriors had to hold the Bulldogs in the 7th to win and advance to the
Region 1 finals. The first batter grounded out to Keiser throwing to
Schimpf for the first out. The second batter drew a walk. The third
batter hit a fly ball deep to left field easily caught by Law. Imhoff
struck out the final batter to win the game! The Warriors now advance to
the Region 1 Finals against Midland Lee.
