behind him, they kept El Paso Socorro from scoring in the first four innings.
Offensively, the Warriors came out battling with Harrison Law leading off in the
bottom of the 1st inning with a double to deep left center. Jantzen Witte
followed up with a triple to right center scoring Law and then he scored on a
wild pitch. Will Keiser took a walk followed by a base hit from Jordan
Imhoff. Brian Nephew then hit into a double play leaving only Keiser on
base, but he was left hanging at the end of the inning. Jake Mizell drew a
walk in the bottom of the 2nd, but was also left on base. In the bottom of
the 3rd with the first two batters flying out, Keiser hit a single to right
center field. Imhoff was up next and hit a home run over right field
giving the Warriors a 4-0 lead. The bottom of the 4th inning Mizell hit a
single up the middle, but was thrown out attempting to steal second base.
Matt Schimpf and Chase Brown both walked, but were left on base. In the
top of the 5th, the Bulldogs lead off batter got on base with a single and then
was thrown out on a fielder’s choice by Nephew at third throwing to Keiser at
second. The next batter reached base on a fielding error. The fourth
batter of the inning hit a single to right center loading the bases. The
next batter hit to Will Keiser at second who threw to Witte at short and then
Witte to Schimpf at first for the double play to get us out of the inning.
In the bottom of the 5th, Witte led off with a single to right center.
Tanner Hapeman entered the game to run for Witte. Imhoff hit a single
between third and short scoring Hapeman who had advanced to second on an
overthrow by the pitcher. Imhoff got to second on an error by the third
baseman and Shane Griffin went in to run for him. Griffin was left on base
as the next two batters grounded out and flew out. The top of the 6th, the
Bulldogs attempted to rally loading the bases with the first three batters
getting on by walks and an error. One run scored on a ground out by the
fourth batter. The Warriors defense made two good plays, Schimpf catching
a pop up at first and Mizell making a great catch in center field, ending the
scoring threat by the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs kept fighting in the bottom
of the 6th. Mizell grounded out to the short stop for the first out. Zack
Laster went in to pinch hit for Schimpf and drew a walk. Brown then hit
into a double play to end the Warriors chances for some insurance runs. In
the top of the 7th, the first Bulldog batter flew out to Imhoff in right field.
The second batter got on base on balls. The third batter bunted to Mike
Hill on the mound who threw to Witte getting the lead runner out at second, then
Witte threw to Schimpf at first attempting the double play. The runner was
safe, but the umpire ruled runner interference by the lead runner on the throw
calling the runner at first out. This ended the game with a win for the
Warriors!
