Martin Warriors @ Flower Mound Jaguars
Game Summary
The Warriors got two on base in the top of the 1st inning with two walks, but
failed to get the runners home. On the mound for Martin was Mike Hill;
with good defense behind him, the 1st inning ended with no score for the
Jaguars. In the 2nd inning, Mike Chovanec led off with a single.
Jacob Mizell laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to move Chovanec around to
second base. Matthew Schimpf was up next and reached base on four straight
balls. Chase Brown also drew a walk bringing up Harrison Law with bases
loaded. Shane Griffin went in to run for Brown. Law hit a double to right
field scoring Chovanec and Shimpf to put the Warriors ahead early. Griffin
and Law were left on base after Jantzen Witte and Will Keiser both grounded out.
The bottom of the 2nd started off with a Jaguar walking, who was left on base
with the next three Jags grounding out. In the 3rd and 4th innings both teams
were out three up three down with a couple of nice double plays by each team.
The 5th inning Witte got on base on a hit by pitch. Keiser got a hit to left
center. The center fielder mishandled the ball allowing Witte to score.
Keiser kept advancing and scored when the catcher overthrew to third base.
Bryan Nephew reached base on a nice hit to left field but was left on base.
The Warrior defense was again dominant in the bottom of the 5th with only one
Jaguar reaching base on a single. In the 6th, the Warriors were once again three
up and three down. In the bottom of the inning, the Jaguars threatened to score
with one on base on a walk and another on a single. Hill wiggled out of the
inning with an in field fly out and a final strike out to end their scoring
threat. The final inning the Warriors loaded the bases with Witte reaching
base on a hit to third base, Keiser with a bunt hit and Imhoff being
intentionally walked. The next two batters were not able to get any of the
runners home. All that was left was to hold the Jaguars in the bottom of
the inning to win the game. The first batter up battled his way on with a
single to right field followed by a ground out from the second batter. The third
batter reached base on a nice hit to center field putting two runners in scoring
position. Mike Hill held strong and struck out the next two batters to end
the game with a win for the Warriors forcing game 3 of the Regional
Quarterfinals. Go Warriors!
