Martin Warriors vs Flower Mound Marcus

Game Summary

The second game brought us back home under hot sunshiny skies.  Mike Hill was our starting pitcher and pitched a great first inning with only one hit, two strike-outs and no runs allowed.  The Warrior bats got cracking early with Harrison Law leading off with a single to left center.  Law scored on Jantzen Witte’s double to right center.  Witte took third on a wild pitch and then scored on a sacrifice fly out by Jordan Imhoff. Hill and the infielders managed a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the second. Jacob Mizell got the only hit for the Warriors in the bottom of the second.  The third inning Hill only allowed one hit and had one strike-out.  The infielders again made good routine plays to end the inning with no score for the Marauders.  Witte got another double in the third but was thrown out at third base on a fielder’s choice by Will Keiser.  Hill struck out Marcus’ first batter of the fourth inning, but hit the second one.  Will Keiser caught a shot between first and second for the second out.  The next batter hit a single scoring one and was thrown out by Chase Brown trying to steal second base.  Brian Nephew drew a walk in the bottom of the fourth but was thrown out by the pitcher on Chovanec’s fielder’s choice.  Chovanec was thown out by the catcher when trying to steal second.  Matthew Schimpf reached base on balls and moved to second on Mizell’s base hit up the middle.  Brown also reached base on a walk to load the bases, but all three runners were left on base as Law made the third out.  Hill began to struggle a bit in the top of the fifth hitting the first two batters.  The third batter hit a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to scoring position.  Chase Brown got us out of the inning when he made a fantastic unassisted double play.  The next batter hit a foul tip that Brown caught and then he tagged the runner coming home.  Jordan Imhoff hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth bringing the score to 3-1 Martin.  Hill began the sixth inning but was relieved by Imhoff with a 2-1 count on the first batter.  That batter was retired when he hit to Schimpf at first base. Imhoff allowed one hit and struck out two to end the inning.  The Warriors only got one man on base in the sixth – Mizell with a walk, but wasn’t able to get him home.  Marcus attempted a last inning rally loading the bases with the first three batters on a hit a walk and another hit; but Imhoff came back strong and struck out the next three to end the game in a win for Martin making Martin the Area Champions!
