Martin Warriors @ Flower Mound Marcus
Game Summary
After a rain out on Thursday, the first game moved to Friday night at Marcus.
Shane Griffin started on the mound. The Marauders were the first to score in the
bottom of the 1st inning, but the Warriors came out hitting in the 2nd and never
let up. Jordan Imhoff led off with a single to right center followed by a walk
by Brian Nephew. The next hit was an RBI double by Matthew Schimpf scoring
Imhoff. Jake Mizell followed Schimpf with a single scoring Nephew, then Schimpf
scored on a Marcus error. Griffin and the Warrior defense held the Marauders to
no score in the bottom of the inning. The 3rd inning was one for the history
books for sure – back to back to back home runs – three in a row! Will Keiser
led off the inning with a solo homer to left center followed by Nephew to about
the same spot and then Imhoff as well! It was amazing! Michael Chovanec was up
next with a walk. Schimpf had two balls and no strikes when Marcus switched
pitchers. Schimpf reached base on a single. Mizell hit a beautiful sacrifice
bunt to move the batters around into scoring position. Chase Brown then hit to
first base getting Chovanec home. Harrison Law hit a single scoring Schimpf but
was thrown out stealing second base ending the top of the inning with Warriors
leading 8-1. Marcus ended up with another run in the bottom of the 3rd. The top
of the 4th Imhoff hit another solo home run, his 14th home run of the season! Nephew, Chovanec and Schimpf each hit singles, but no other runs were scored in
the inning. Marcus was again held scoreless again in the 4th. The 5th inning
started off with a double by Mizell who reached 3rd base on a wild pitch putting
him in good scoring position when Adam Glen came in to hit for Brown. Glen
grounded out, but got the RBI. Law was up next and hit a solo home run. Keiser
got a hit, but was left on base. The Warriors defense and Griffin began the
bottom of the 5th strong getting the first two batters out. Griffin then began
to struggle walking three and hitting three, which allowed three runs to score. Zac Zielinski came to the mound in relief. Another batter was walked scoring the
fourth run of the inning for Marcus. Nephew cleanly fielded a shot to 3rd
touching the bag for the 3rd out. The Warriors scored one in the 6th on a solo
homer by Chovanec – the 6th home run of the game! Mizell walked, Brown got a
single and Law was hit by a pitch, but all three were left on base. Marcus was
held again in the 6th with the score now 12-6 Martin. In the 7th inning the
Warriors were able to get one runner home capitalizing on a couple of Marcus
errors. There were two hits in the last inning, one by Imhoff and one by
Chovanec. Marcus came out to rally in the bottom of the 7th scoring two before a
pitching change brought in Nephew with bases loaded. Nephew got the second out
with a strike out, but three more runs scored before Imhoff was brought to the
mound. Imhoff loaded the bases with a couple of walks and one more run scoring,
but then struck out the final batter to win the game by one run!
