Game Summary

Kevin Winter is given the ball as the starting pitcher for the highly anticipated game between Martin and Cedar Hill. The Longhorns have the next best record in the district and come out swinging in the first inning. With 1 out, the Longhorns put together 3 singles to load the bases. Kevin Winter buckles down and gets 2 strikeouts to end a first inning scoring threat. The Warrior bats are silent with 3 up and 3 down including 2 strike outs. Cedar Hill leads off in the 2nd inning with a single followed by a fielder’s choice with Winter fielding a bunt and throwing to Jantzen Witte at second to get the lead runner out. Another single and a walk load the bases for the Longhorns and they end up scoring on a 2 RBI single over short stop, but left fielder Harrison Law makes a great throw to Brian Nephew at 3rd to get the 2nd out. Another run scores on an infield error, and then Jordan Imhoff catches a fly ball in right field to end the inning. Imhoff leads off the Warrior 2nd with a hard grounder over the bag at 3rd base. Brian Nephew launches a home run over the left field fence to bring the score to 3-2. Tyler Martin hits a single to left field then Michael Chovanec rips a home run over the right field fence to put Martin ahead. Jake Mizell reaches base on a walk, but is picked off by the pitcher at 1st. Chase Brown reaches on an error and Shane Griffin comes in as a courtesy runner and promptly steals 2nd base. Law hits a single to right field, scores Griffin and then advances to 2nd base on the throw home. Jantzen Witte continues the inning with a single and stolen base. Imhoff comes to the plate again in the inning and explodes a 3 run homer to left field. Cedar Hill changes pitchers and ends the inning on a strike out, but the damage was done with the Warriors scoring 8 runs. The Longhorns get a single in the 3rd inning but a strike out and 2 ground ball outs keep them from scoring. The Warriors also get a single in the 3rd but are unable to score. Winter gets a 1-2-3 top of the 4th inning and Witte hits a double in the bottom half but again, the Warriors aren’t able to score. The Longhorns still battle in the 5th and hit 2 singles after a lead off ground ball out. Shane Griffin comes to the mound for the Warriors and gets an important ground ball out and then a strike out to end the Longhorn hopes. With 1out in the bottom of the 5th, Brian Nephew hits a single up the middle. After a fly ball out, Michael Chovanec hits another single and a walk by Matthew Schimpf loads the bases for the Warriors but a ground ball force out halts a scoring opportunity for Martin. The 6th inning is scoreless for both teams. Griffin begins the 7th with 2 strike outs. A swinging 3rd strike on the next batter gets by Brown and allows the runner to reach base. The next Longhorn batter sends a long fly ball to deep center field scoring 1 run. A wild pitch allows another Cedar Hill run but Griffin entices a ground ball out with Nephew throwing to Tyler Martin to end the game with a (Warrior winning) score of 5-8. The Warriors undefeated district record stands at 6-0.  Go Warriors!
