Game Summary
Shane Griffin went the distance in the Warriors District Home Opener against the
Sam Houston Texans pitching 7 innings giving up only 3 hits. The Warrior defense
held the Texans to no runs until the fourth inning. Harrison Law started off the
Martin offense with a single to lead off the hitting in the first inning scoring
on Michael Chovanec’s triple up the middle. Will Keiser then hit a single scoring Chovanec but was left stranded when the next three batters were struck out. In
the second inning, Tyler Martin led off with a walk and moved around to second
on Daniel Garcia’s sacrifice bunt. T. Martin scored on a triple by Law. In the
top of the fourth, Texan pitcher, Alex Blanton, hit a lead off home run to score
the first run for Sam Houston followed by a triple that scored on a ground ball
double play by Keiser, Jantzen Witte and T. Martin for the first two outs of the inning. The next batter was retired by one of Griffin’s seven strike outs of the game. The Warriors got a few on base in the bottom of the fourth with a single by
Witte and two walks by Garcia and Chase Brown, but did not score. The Mighty Warrior
defense put the Texans out three up, three down in the fifth, sixth and seventh
innings. Chovanec and Keiser both walked in the fifth inning with both scoring
on Brian Nephew’s single up the middle. Witte hit a single but was put out on T.
Martin’s fielder’s choice. T. Martin scored on overthrows to bring the score to
7-2. In the sixth inning Brown reached base on an error by the short stop and
rounded to second on a wild pitch. Law hit a triple scoring Brown. Chovanec
walked followed by Keiser’s sacrifice fly to score Law. Chovanec scored on
Nephew’s line drive double to left field.
