Martin - vs
Cedar Hill -
Game Summary
The Warrior offense proved too much for the Longhorns. The Warriors put up 3
runs, each in the first 2 innings, followed by 5 more runs in the third inning
and never looked back. Pitcher Ryan Walker led the offense with 4 hits in 4
appearances at the plate. There were only 5 strikeouts by Warrior batters in the
entire game. In all, there were 13 hits and 9 RBI’s by the Warriors for a total
of 17 bases, meaning several Warriors hit more than just singles. Add to this
huge number of earned bases, several stolen bases which resulted in constant
pressure on the Longhorn defense. It showed with 2 errors and 7 wild
pitches/passed balls.
On defense, Ryan Walker threw hard for 3 innings allowing only 1 hit by the
Longhorns, a single in the first inning. Ryan struck out 7 out of the 11 batters
he faced. In addition, Ryan teamed up with first baseman Tony Rizzotti in the
third inning to pick off a Longhorn runner who had led off the bottom of the
third with a walk. Not only did Russell Metcalf form a wall behind the plate, he
added his own hard throw by making a perfect throw down to second baseman Jordan
Hasler in the fourth inning. Third baseman Reid Carson ended the fourth inning
with a heads up play on a ground ball, making the third out on an unassisted
play at third base. Dillon May came in to relieve Ryan Walker in the fourth
inning, striking out two Longhorns, and throwing hard enough to limit the
Longhorns to one base hit.
