Martin   - vs Duncanville -

Game Summary

The district match up between Duncanville and Martin is traditionally a battle.  This night was no exception.  Mike Hill is on the mound for Martin and begins the game with a 1-2-3 inning.  Martin gets 2 batters on in the first but doesn’t score.  Duncanville gets two on base in the top of the 2nd inning, but the Warrior defense holds them to no score.  Tyler Martin leads off the 2nd inning with a single, gets a stolen base and then scores on a single to right by Jacob Mizell.  An infield error in the top of the 3rd allows the lead off Panther to reach base.  Brian Nephew makes a good play on a fielder’s choice to get the lead runner.  The next batter reaches base after being hit by a pitch.  Harrison Law makes an outstanding catch on a fowl ball to left field for the second out.  Duncanville then scores on a single to tie the game then the final batter hits to the infield for a routine play to bring Martin to the plate.  No score for the Warriors in the 3rd with a 1-2-3 inning for the Panthers.  The defense then held the Panthers again to no score in the top of the 4th.  The Warriors go ahead with Nephew leading off with a single to right field.  T. Martin advances him with a sac bunt and Michael Chovanec brings Nephew home with a double to left field. Chovanec steals 3rd base and scores as Chase Brown reaches on an error.  Courtesy runner Shane Griffin advances to 2nd and Harrison Law reaches on a walk.  Jantzen Witte hits a 2 RBI triple to deep right center field to score Griffin and Law.  The Warriors now lead by 4. The Panthers get their bats going in the 5th with 3 singles, scoring 1 run.  Kevin Winter comes to the mound with 2 outs for the Warriors, but a 2 RBI double brings the score 4-5 with Martin still leading.  The Warriors respond in their half of the 5th with Jordan Imhoff leading off with a double.  Duncanville changes pitchers but T. Martin hits a single up the middle to score Imhoff.  The Warriors lead by 2 but the Panthers continue to battle scoring 2 runs on 2 singles and a double in the 6th to tie the game at 6-6. Chase Brown hits a single to lead off the Warrior 6th and Griffin enters again as a courtesy runner.  Duncanville changes pitchers again during Law’s at bat and he hits a single and moves Griffin to 3rd.  Law then attempts a steal and with an error in the field by the Panthers, Griffin scores and Law moves to 3rd.  Will Keiser then scores Law on a single and advances on a stolen base.  Imhoff hits a single and Paul Gonzalez goes in to run for Imhoff.  The Warriors don’t score again but now lead the game 8-6.  The Warrior defense is tested in the top of the 7th and gives up a run following a walk, wild pitch and an infield error.  T. Martin seals the win with a good play on a ground ball and tossing the ball to Winter covering 1st base.  The Warriors escape with a win and lead the district with a 4-0 record.
