Martin   - vs Poteet -

Game Summary

The second game of the Duncanville JV tournament pitted the Warriors against the Mesquite Poteet Pirates. The Warriors had Jay Hiller on the mound. Hiller pitched a strong game and Chris Micheal closed for the Warriors. The defense once again was very strong and committed no errors during the five innings of play. The first pitch that the Pirates saw was hit hard down the middle. Short stop Travis Breslin made a diving stop to keep the hit to only a single. The second Pirate foul tipped the third strike and Warrior catcher, Nathan Harrison held on for the first out. The next two batters were retired in order. The Warrior half of the inning saw consecutive singles by Hiller, Tanner Hapeman and Chase Jensen. Warriors were able to rack up four runs. The Pirates went down in order with a called strike, a high infield pop fly that was caught by third baseman, Trevor Slocum and the third batter flew out to Hunter Reinhardt in center field. The Warriors were not able to score during the second although Breslin hit a single. The Pirates were on the board in the third after the first batter grounded out to second baseman, Chase Jensen. There was a walk and a triple to score the one run. The next batter grounded out to Slocum and Hapeman made the grab when the next Pirate hit a fly ball to right field. The Warriors answered with five of their own due to walks dealt to Reinhardt and Glass, singles by Taylor Peddicord and Breslin, a double by Hapeman and Hiller laying down a suicide squeeze bunt that scored a run and saw Hiller reaching first safe as well. The Pirates were scoreless in the fourth. Peddicord hit a double followed by a walk to Trent Hunter in the bottom of the fourth and they were both able to score due to stolen bases, wild pitches, errors and a balk by the Pirate pitcher bringing the score to 10 – 2 Warriors. The Pirates did add three during the fifth and the Warriors came up to bat and had a couple of runners on with one out when time was called.
