Martin - vs Marcus -
Game Summary
The 2007 Mighty Warriors put one in the win column to start the season in game
one of the Lewisville tournament (Lake Cities Classic) against the Marcus Marauders at Marcus’ home
field. The second inning got off to a great start with Jordan Imhoff hitting a
home run over left field on a 0-2 count. Zach Laster and Jantzen Witte kept the
hits coming with a single each. Shane Griffin, in to pinch run for Laster, stole
third putting him in scoring position. Chase Brown reached base on a hard hit
ball to the pitcher and Griffin ran home to bring the score to 2-0 Warriors.
Harrison Law drew a walk to get on base, and then Mike Chovanec hit a base hit
scoring Brown. Will Keiser up next hit a double to right field scoring both Law
and Chovanec making the score 5-0 at the end of the inning. Mike Hill continued
to dominate on the mound through the third inning. In the top of the fourth, Law
led off with a single to right followed by Chovanec’s nice sacrifice bunt to
move Law to second. Imhoff hit a single scoring Law. Brian Nephew then hit a
triple to right center scoring Imhoff. Nephew scored on a pass ball while Laster
drew a walk. In the bottom of the fourth, Marcus was able to score three runs on
three hits and a couple of mishandled plays. Marcus put in a fresh pitcher in
the top of the 5th retiring the Martin batters early. In the top of the 6th,
Chovanec led off with a double to right field followed by Keiser’s single to
right. Imhoff was hit by a pitch putting him at first. Nephew hit into what
would have been a double play, but the second baseman overthrew first base and
Chovanec scored. Warriors continued to intimidate the Marauders through the rest
of the game ending with a 9-3 win! Go Warriors!
