Game Summary
The Junior Varsity Martin Warriors opened the Burleson tournament with a convincing win over the Summit Jaguars. The Warriors jumped on the Jaguars early with a 6 run 1st after the Jaguars lead off batter scored their only run in the top of the inning. Jay Hiller reached on an error and scored when Chase Jensen hit a single. Jensen came around when Stewart Person hit a bomb for a triple. Eric Jeske, pinch running for Person, was pushed across the plate by Trevor Slocum’s double. Daniel Garcia hit a single followed by 4 straight balls thrown to Trent Hunter to load the bases. Slocum scored when Taylor Peddicord reached on a Jaguar error followed by Hiller once again reaching with the help of the Jaguar 2nd baseman. Great base running by Hunter Reinhardt who was pinch running for Garcia and Hunter gave Hiller two RBIs early. Warriors held the Jaguars scoreless in the top of the second and once again came out swinging. Jensen got his second hit of the game with a double followed up with a double by Person which scored Jensen. Slocum reached on a Jaguar error and was able to breakup the double play which had Travis Breslin reaching on a fielder’s choice and racking up an RBI for Breslin when Person scored. In the third inning Person struck out the first batter and then hit the 2nd Jaguar batter only to pick the runner off first with the help of first baseman, Hiller. Person finished the inning with another strike out. After two quick outs in the Warriors’ half of the inning Tanner Hapeman reached on an error and scored when Jensen hit another double. The top of the fourth was a little sloppy for the Warriors but they held the Jaguars to 4 runs to keep the score in the Warriors favor at 9 – 5. The hitting Warriors came back with a vengeance. Travis Breslin and Kyle Blackwell started it off with singles followed by a walk to Nathan Harrison. Reinhardt was hit by a pitch, Hapeman got a single and Jensen rounded out the inning with a single, his fourth hit of the game. Summit was able to push across another runner in the top of the 5th to make the final 14 – 6 Martin.
