Game Summary
On a late night in De Soto the
Warrior Freshmen team broke the curse of the De Soto field and became the only
Warrior team that won a game there this year by beating the De Soto Eagles 21 –
5. The first inning saw 8 runs scored by the Warriors with a double and a walk
by Daniel Garcia, and a single and triple from Travis Breslin. Dylan Rucker got
a walk and Stewart Person, Chase Jensen and Taylor Peddicord all hit singles.
During this inning Michael Glass also reached on a fielder’s choice. Josh Bragg
struck out three Eagles in the bottom of the first and issued one harmless
walk. The Warriors left three stranded in the second and the Eagles scored one
with two singles that inning. Peddicord started the third inning with a walk
and scored with one out when Breslin hit a single into left field. Rucker and
Person both walked then Jensen hit a single scoring Rucker. Christian Ballard
also walked and Person was able to come home on a wild pitch. The Eagles got
three singles in the bottom of the third and also reached with one hit batsmen,
one fielder’s choice and one walk all resulting in four runs for the Eagles.
The final out for the Eagles was a hard shot to first basemen, Person who
fielded the ball then dove to tag the bag before the runner could get there. At
the end of three the score was 11 – 5 Warriors. In the fourth the Warriors took
the four runs back starting off with Peddicord beating out a throw to first
after the catcher dropped the third strike. Garcia hit a single, Breslin walked
and Peddicord and Garcia both scored when Rucker doubled. Breslin crossed the
plate with a passed ball and Rucker come home on Jensen’s single setting the
Warriors up for another run rule night with a score of 15 – 5. The Eagles were
not able to add any runs in the fourth despite one single and one walk. The
fifth saw the Warriors widen their lead to 21 – 5 with 6 runs. Kyle Chathum was
hit by a pitch, Trent Hunter and Peddicord hit singles followed by a triple from
Garcia. Michael Glass hit a single and Rucker walked. With 2 outs Kyle
Blackwell got on due to an Eagle error which scored the last two Warrior runs
for the evening. Tanner Hapeman came in as relief in the bottom of the fifth
and other than the Eagle that reached with a third strike dropped ball the
Warriors defense shut them down. Bragg gets the win taking him to 6 – 0.
Warriors are now 12 – 0 in district play with two games left to play.
