Martin - 15 vs Bowie - 4
Game Summary
The freshmen Warriors beat
the Bowie Volunteers to bring their district record to 6 – 0. What was a tied
game through the 4th inning and close for 6 innings ended up being a thrashing
by the Warriors. The starting pitcher for the Vols took care of the Warriors in
order in the top of the 1st. The Vols first batter hit a double to
left field followed by a single from the second batter and a walk by the third
batter to load the bases. The fourth batter was trying to lay down a bunt to
score the runner from third when the runner crept down the third base line a
little too far and the batter failed to connect, Warrior catcher, Daniel Garcia
took the pitch and ran down the runner unassisted for the first out of the
inning. Warrior pitcher, Chris Michael was able to strike out the next two
batters to get out of the inning without a Volunteer crossing the plate. During
the 2nd Dylan Rucker hit a single and Kyle Blackwell was walked.
With two outs Hunter Reinhardt took a walk loading the bases for Trevor Slocum
who hit a gapper to left center for a double and three Warrior runs. Tanner Hapeman hit a single to score Slocum to make the score 4 – 0 Warriors after the
top of the 2nd. The Volunteers answered with four runs of their
own. The Warriors were once again shut down in the 3rd with the only
one hit, a single by Chase Jensen. The Vols had a runner on 2nd and
two outs when the Warrior first baseman, Stewart Person robbed the Vols of their
go ahead run when he laid out for a fly ball that was a foot off the ground and
headed to right field for the third out keeping the Vols scoreless in the
inning. In the 5th inning Blackwell hit a double to right and Person
walked. Reinhardt hit a sac fly to right scoring Blackwell. Slocum hit a
triple to bring Person home and Hapeman reached on an error which scored
Slocum. By now Warrior pitcher, Michael had definitely found his groove and the
three batters he faced in the 5th all hit infield ground balls, two
to Person at first and one back to the mound which Micheal handled easily. The
6th inning saw the Warriors adding a run with a walk by Reinhardt and
singles from Blackwell, Person and Slocum for a score of 8 – 4 Warriors heading
to the bottom of the 6th. The first Volunteer that Michael faced in
the 6th hit a line drive to first baseman, Person who made the play
look easy and Michael struck out the next two batters to make it the 3rd
consecutive inning of three up, three down. Then the Warriors blow the doors
off with Hapeman hitting a double and Garcia, Eric Jeske and Rucker all taking
walks. Both Blackwell and Jensen reached on fielder’s choice and Person hit a
single. Reinhardt made it to first due to a Vols error, Hapeman hit a triple,
his third hit for the night and second during the inning and Garcia was hit by a
pitch. The Warriors were able to add 7 runs during the 7th. Ian
Johnston closed out the game for the Warriors and like Michael was able to sit
the Volunteers down in order. Chris Michael gets the win which makes his record
5 – 0. Garcia takes the on base percentage honors getting on base 5 times, 2
walks, 2 hit by pitch and 1 fielder’s choice.
