continues its dominance in district play with its second shut out in a row.
Adam Glenn pitched a great game in its entirety allowing only 6 single base
hits, 3 walks and striking out 11. Glenn was supported well by his defense in
the field with good plays to score key outs by Martin’s short stop, Jantzen
Witte and outfielders Ryan Nielsen, Chase Brown and Jacob Mizell. In the bottom
of the 4th, with runners on 1st and 3rd, only 1
out and the Vikings threatening to score, Warrior catcher Hayden Steele took a
cleat to his leg and sustained an injury in a failed stolen base attempt where
Steele threw to 2nd base in an attempt to throw the player trying to
steal. With heads up play, 2nd baseman Matt Schimpf threw back to
Steele to catch the runner on 3rd trying to steal home. Steele
finished out the inning but was replaced by Justin Bateman in the top of the 5th
due to his injury.
Warrior offense was strong with 6 players recording hits of which 5 had multiple base hits. In the 2nd inning Mike Chovanec started off the inning with a double to centerfield. Hayden Steele got on base with one out after being hit by a pitch. With 2 outs, Jacob Mizell hit a single to load the bases. Ryan Nielsen recorded the 1st 2 RBI’s of the game, with a well hit double to center field. Chase Brown hit the second double of the inning scoring 1 more run. In the 3rd inning, the 1st two Warrior batters reached base on errors and 2nd two batters got out with well hit balls to the outfield. Matt Schimpf then hit a double to right-center scoring 2 batters. Jacob Mizell followed that with a double to centerfield, scoring Schimpf. Nielsen then got on base with an error by the third baseman which scored Mizell. In the 4th inning, Mike Lindsey starting the inning off with a walk and Jantzen Witte hit a single to right field. With one out, Mike Hill hit a single to center field however; Lindsey was thrown out at home trying to score. Coming off the bench to catch after Steele’s injury sustained in the top of the 4th, Justin Bateman hit a double to left field scoring Witte but Hill was thrown out at home trying to score ending the inning. In the 5th inning, Nielsen hit a triple to left field with 2 outs and scored the only run of the inning stealing home on a pass ball.
