Martin - 7 vs Duncanville - 1
Game Summary
The JV Martin Warriors traveled to Duncanville to face the Panthers in the 2nd District game of the season. Both teams were scoreless through the 3rd inning. In the bottom of the 4th Michael Chovanec got things started with a double to right field. Michael Hill followed with another double, this time down the 3rd base line scoring Chovanec. Up next was Hayden Steele who hit a triple up the middle scoring Ryan Guadagnolo who pinch ran for Hill. Shane Griffin went in to run for Steele and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Schimpf (Shrimp, as the announcer called him!). Jacob Mizell then got a base hit up the middle, but got thrown out trying to steal 2nd. In the 5th inning, Christian Hibbs began the inning with a hit to right centerfield. Michael Lindsey and Michael Chovanec walked to load the bases. Michael Hill hit a fly ball to right field that was a sure out, but the right fielder dropped it allowing Hibbs and Lindsey to score. Hill ran to second, attempting to draw the throw so Chovanec could score, the catcher instead threw to the third baseman who missed the ball and Chovanec ran home for the score. The Panthers scored one in the bottom of the 5th. The runner reached base on an error and scored when the lead off batter hit a double. The 6th inning was scoreless. Chase Brown hit a single to right centerfield in the top of the 7th and scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Chovanec.
Michael Hill pitched for the Warriors allowing 4 hits, walking 4 and striking out 6. Defensive highlights included Matt Schimpf fielding a hit up the middle in the first inning getting the runner out at 2nd and thowing to Michael Chovanec at 1st for the double play. In the 3rd inning Jacob Mizell caught a long fly ball to right field on the run. Short stop, Jantzen Witte, caught a fly ball in the 4th that looked like it would go over his head. Christian Hibbs caught a fly ball to left field to end the 5th inning. In the 6th, Mizell caught another long fly ball to right field and Michael Lindsey made a nice play at 3rd base getting the lead runner out and throwing to Chovanec at 1st base for the 2nd double play of the game. In the final inning, Hill managed to hang onto a shot back to the pitchers mound that knocked him to the ground. He got up quickly and threw to Chovanec at first getting the base runner out to end the game on the 3rd double play of the night. Good job Warriors!
