Martin - 7, Desoto 0
Game Summary
Starting Martin pitcher Nathan Karns (3-0) shutdown the Desoto Eagles offense, striking out 14 in the process for a complete game shutout. Once again, the Warrior offense supplied the only needed runs within the first couple of batters: Shaun Garcia led off the game with a single, and Eric Hanlon homered to left field to put Martin ahead 2-0. Eric homered again in the 5th inning, also with Shaun Garcia aboard, to give the Warriors some breathing room. Eric would reach base yet again in the 6th by singling up the middle, making him a perfect 3 for 3 on the night. Although the Eagles offense threatened a couple of times, flawless defense and great pitching never allowed a Desoto runner to cross the plate. Catcher Richard Pumphrey had the only other two Martin hits. It was supposed to be a night of speed versus speed, as Martin and Desoto had 5 of the top 6 base-stealers in the area coming in. But you have to reach base to steal, and Nathan Karns kept their speed off base. Junior Jaren Anderson for Martin was 3 for 3 in base-stealing opportunities (keeping him a perfect 19-0 on the year) and Junior Brian Fite added two stolen bases. Seniors Brett Kazmierski and Eric Hanlon each had one.
