Martin - 6, Arlington 7

Game Summary

Martin First-Baseman Paul Hovis - Taking The Pickoff Throw

The upstart Arlington Colts seemed to have an answer to every Martin threat as the Colts edged the Warriors in extra innings, 7-6.  Although the Martin bats rained 12 hits on the Colts pitchers, stringing them together proved easier said than done, as they only managed 6 runs in the 9 inning game.  A rough 3rd inning where the Arlington batters strung together 4 hits and 2 walks against starting pitcher Nathan Karns to push 4 runs across made the difference in the game.  The Warriors answered with a 3 run 6th to tie the game at 6, but were unable to get the winning run home in a couple of opportunities that followed.  Clint Shaffer’s double against Martin reliever Bryce Peterman in the top of the 9th scored Colts Designated Hitter Chase Giddens for the winning run.  The Warriors mounted a threat in the bottom half of the 9th against Colts reliever Brian Byrd, but Brian struck out hot-hitting Trent Blanchard with the bases loaded to get the final out of the game.  The Warriors had 5 batters with 2 hits each:  Shaun Garcia (one a double), Eric Hanlon, Trent Blanchard, Logan Batlle and Richard Pumphrey (both doubles).
