Martin 7, Richland 8

Game Summary

Martin couldn't overcome a shaky defensive first inning, and came up short in their comeback bid, as they fell 8-7 to Richland in the opening round of the Arlington High Tournament for their first loss of the season.  Martin had scored in the top of the 1st on Chris Gildea's double to  right-center, but Richland came back in the bottom half to score four runs aided by three Warrior errors.  Martin added a single run in the top of the 2nd, then Zach Laster put the Warriors in front with a towering 3-run shot off of the high school building beyond the right field wall.  Richland came back in the bottom half of the third to score three runs, and added a critical insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Martin rallied for two runs in the fifth to make it a one-run game.  In the Martin half of the sixth, Gildea led off with a single to right, and Tyler Martin followed with a blast to left center that appeared to be headed for the gap, but the Richland centerfielder made a great running catch.  The game ended with the bases full of Warriors.  Gildea continued to stay red hot at the plate for the Warriors going 3 for 3, and Kyle Swearingen added two hits.
