Martin - 14, Sam Houston 5

Game Summary

DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!!!  Someone forgot to tell the Sam Houston Texans that they were 1-12 in district and a huge underdog to the powerful Martin Warriors.  The Texans refused to quit, and took a 5-4 lead into the 6^th inning.  But on a cold, windy night, that’s when the mighty Warrior bats started to warm up.  Junior designated hitter Josh Marshall got the festivities started with a 4 pitch lead off walk, and promptly stole 2^nd.  Short-stop Trent Blanchard rocked the 1^st pitch he saw to the fence for an RBI Double.  With the score now tied, Senior 1^st Baseman Paul Hovis attempted to bunt Trent to 3^rd, but a wide throw by the pitcher allowed Paul to reach safely and Trent to score, putting Martin ahead – this time to stay.  Getting his first start at 3^rd base for the out of town Chase Edwards, Junior Bryce Peterman stepped to the plate and hit the 1^st pitch he saw this inning in a “no-doubter” over the fence in Left Center for a 2 run HR.  Logan Batlle got drilled by the next pitch, and after the Texans changed pitchers, Sean Garcia Tripled, scoring Logan.  Then Eric Hanlon got hit by a pitch, and stole 2^nd.  So, with runners at 2^nd & 3^rd, Brett Kazmierski hit a towering fly ball to right, scoring Sean on the Sacrifice.  Richard Pumphrey was walked, and Trent Blanchard stepped back in and hammered his 2^nd Double of the inning, scoring Brian Fite who was running for Richard.  Paul Hovis singled to score Trent, and by the time the Texans got the 3^rd out, the Warriors had scored 9 runs in the inning!  After Sam Houston went quietly in the bottom half of the 6^th, Eric Hanlon belted his 6^th HR of the year in the top of the 7^th off of the scoreboard in right to run the score to 14-5.  Junior Turner Thornton came back out for his 7^th inning of work, and shutdown the Texans 1-2-3 to notch his 1^st Varsity victory – a complete game with 10 strikeouts!!!!  Shaun Garcia had 2 hits, 1 a Triple; Eric Hanlon had 3 hits, 1 a HR; Richard Pumphrey had 2 hits, Trent Blanchard had 3 hits, 2 of them Doubles; Paul Hovis had 2 hits and Bryce Peterman had 2 hits, 1 a Double and the other a HR.
