Martin 14, Lamar 12
Game Summary
If you like see-saw battles, come-from-behind wins, lots of offense, and clutch pitching, this was your kind of game. Things were not looking good for the visiting Warriors as the Lamar Vikings jumped to an early 6-0 lead at the end of two innings. However, the Warriors knew it was going to take more than six runs to beat them....and they were right. The Martin bats began to come alive as they began chipping away with a run in the third, then exploded for five more in the top of the fourth to tie the score 6-6. Lamar answered in the bottom of the fourth with four runs to move ahead 10-6. The Warriors closed the gap to 10-9 with three runs in the top of the fifth, then moved ahead 12-10 with three more runs in the top of the sixth. In the meantime, Blake Byrd was shutting down the Vikings with two scoreless innings in relief. In the top of the seventh, the Warriors added two critical insurance runs to stretch their lead to 14-10. The additional breathing room was needed because in the bottom of the seventh, the Vikings led off with a triple and a homer to make the score 14-12 with no outs. The next Viking reached first bringing the tying run to the plate. However, the Warriors turned a 4-6-3 double play which took the wind out of the Vikes sails, and Zac Zielinksi closed the game with a big strike out. Regan Dixon continued his hot hitting with four hits (three for extra bases).
